Mainland China and Taiwan each have their strong points in the fishery fields. With the fast development of the Cross-straits trade, fishery cooperation has increasingly become the important content of Cross-straits cooperation of economy and trade. Being endowed with abundant fishery and labor resources, Mainland China has become the first great nation of Aquatic products and trade in the world. Fishery economy also plays a significant role in Taiwan’s agricultural economy development. Facing the intense globe aquatic products market, both Mainland China and Taiwan are confronted with great challenge in aquatic products export in aquatic products production and trade. Obiviously, making a deep analysis and comparision of the changing international competitiveness of aquatic products in China mainland and Taiwan area, and studying the development potential and the factors influencing the international competitiveness are of theoretical and pratical significance in improving the international competitiveness of cross-straits aquatic products and enhancing cross-straits fishery cooperation.Based on the summary of the international competitiveness theory and pratical research works,the paper first makes a descriptive analysis of the current development of the aquatic production and trade in mainland China and Taiwan. Meanwhile, the paper applies the constant market share model (CMS) model to analyze the factors leading to the aquatic products export changes of mainland China and Taiwan, and understanding the trend of competitive effects factor. For a better understanding of the international competitiveness of both mainland China and Taiwan, the paper used indexes of revealed comparative advantage and trade competitiveness to measure the aquatic products’international competitiveness, and analyzed their changes. In addition, by drawing on Porter’s Diamond model, the paper analyzed andcompared the factors affecting the cross-strait aquatic products’ international competitiveness,and made a quantitative analysis of the influential factors by applying the Gray AssociationModel and their differences.The study found that generally the aquatic products’ international competitiveness of bothmainland China and Taiwan showed a downward trend, but has increased in recent years. Thesigning of ECFA has promoted Taiwan’s exports of aquatic products, and enhanced theinternational competitiveness of Taiwan’s aquatic products. While analyzing and comparingthe factors affecting aquatic products international competitiveness in mainland China andTaiwan, the paper found that there were differences between the main influential factors ofmainland China and Taiwan, and there are complementarities of resource endowmentsbetween mainland China and Taiwan. With all that in mind the paper proposed somesuggestions to improve aquatic products’ international competitiveness of both mainland Chinaand Taiwan jointly by strengthening cross-strait fishery cooperation.
