Research On International Competitiveness Of Chinese Wood Furniture Industry

After adopting the opening policy for over20years,China’s furniture industrysector has been a fast development and achieved a large scale of industrializedproduction.under the effect of worldwide economy system,the whole world’sfurniture production area is undertaking a transfer process, China has increasinglybecome the world’s production Centre of furniture.The furniture export in Chinaexperiences a quick growth,the export value jumped to the first rank in the world on2005and China became the first largest furniture exporting country.At the meantime,however,china is also facing a severe competition,especially after the enteringinto the World Trade Organization(WTO). The furniture tariff was reduced to0fromthe initial l22%which enable a much easier entrance of foreign furniture into China’smarket,while forcing China’ s furniture industry to stand at the same scratch line tocompete with developed countries’ furniture industry. Therefore,encroaching furnitureindustry’s capacity of international competition,enlarging international trade markethave become the key task and challenge of China’ s furniture industry.Within the furniture industry development, wood furniture industry holds thebalance.The writer takes the wood furniture industry as the analysis point,prieflyanalyzes the general development status,trade status and furniture value chain ofworld wood furniture industry;and attaches more importance to the analysis ofChina’s furniture industry,including the general development status in the revenantaspects and faced challenges and problems in the international trade; in the end, basedon the present development status of wood furniture industry, points out the existingproblem and proposes some major measures and suggestions for improvement.In this study, by using the deterioration of export advantage index, the marketshare index and revealed comparative advantage index,changes in the internationalcompetitiveness of Chinese wood furniture industry are in-depth quantitative analyzedwith comparison of Canada, Germany, Italy, Malaysia and the United States; Thefollowing conclusions are: from angle of comparison of the wood furniture industry ofvarious countries in general, Chinese wood furniture industry has a stronginternational competitiveness, enhancing competitiveness faster especially after theaccession to the WTO; Italy, Malaysia and China belong to the same level of competitiveness levels, and has stronger competitiveness than Germany,Canada andthe United States.
