As the gathering place of the non-farm economic activities, City and its economic development accompany with production density and efficiency of elements use transition from low to high. Intensive economic activities caused by the economic concentration will promote the enhancement of economic efficiency, larger economy density is more conducive to the implementation of regional specialization, which will improve the productivity of the local. With economic activities gathering in urban areas, the urban population size and land size continue to expand, which on the one hand to support the growth of city’s total economic output, on the other hand, the expansion of city size is bound to make the density of urban employment and capital changed, and have a direct impact on the urban economic agglomeration effects. Urban economic density reflects not only the intensity of economic activity, but also the intensive economic benefits of urban land use. China is currently in a critical period of rapid urbanization, and has an urgent requirement that to reasonably guide urban economic agglomeration and change the land use patterns to be intensive. Therefore, the study for the density of urban economy and its impacts has an important practical significance.Using the data of13prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province from1996to2010, considering spatial externality in the production function, we built a production function model based on the function of the cluster effect, to study the relationship between the degree of economic concentration and output rate of urban land. This paper mainly investigated the contribution of labor gathering and capital agglomeration to the urban land productivity, and based on the premise that economic concentration has obvious regional characteristics, we built the urban location variable expression, then selected the urban location as the main control variable, to compare the urban location characteristics, also the agglomeration degree and efficiency among the selected cities. Meanwhile, we also introduces the scale of urban land, the level of human capital, the government intervention level, economic structure, and foreign capital intensive as the other control variables, to comprehensively analyze the influencing factors of urban land productivity. The empirical results show that:the capital density has a significant positive effect on urban land productivity, but the impact of labor density is relatively weak; Contrast with the other factors, the expansion of the urban land scale and government intervention is not conducive to improve the urban land productivity. Finally, this paper gave the policy recommendations on how to solve the existing problems related to the urban land productivity, as well as the ways to increase urban land productivity. This paper is divided into five parts. Part Ⅰ:Introduction; Part Ⅱ:Basic theories and models; Part Ⅲ:The theoretical analysis that how economic agglomeration affect the urban land productivity; Part IV:The empirical analysis hat how economic agglomeration affect the urban land productivity Jiangsu city land; Part V:The conclusions and recommendations.
