Since the reform and opening up, rapid growth has been attained in China’s economy, which is one of the noteworthy achievements of the world. But in recent years, China’s unequal income distribution problem has aroused widespread attention. For the first time, the National Bureau of Statistics opened10years data, which also reflects the unjustified income distribution situation. The income distribution gap, large enough to constrain the domestic consumer market, is not conducive to the rapid but sustainable economic growth. At the same time, the unfair distribution of income will lead to social instability and discord as potential danger. As a proverb goes,"not be afraid of scarcity, but inequality". The issue of China’s unequal income distribution has become the focus of current research in the field of public policy. Income allocation study involves many areas such as political science and economics. It is not a purely empirical study, and normative study on the problem of income distribution has increased the need of study on the basis of empirical analysis. From the above considerations, the analysis of income gap of Yunnan Province as an example is on the basis of income data of the years betweenl990and2011. Through the comparison of incomes between urban and rural residents, industries, regions, Yunnan and other provinces, this study seeks to reveal the income distribution situation of Yunnan residents from several dimensions and find main factors influencing income distribution. In conducting this study, two methods are employed:quantitative and empirical analysis. Though taking Yunnan as a miniature, this research is an extension of the study on the problem of income distribution in China. Enlightened from foreign system in overcoming income distribution problems, this study tries to put forward some proposals to improve the current income distribution status by focusing on problems both in initial distribution and redistribution phase.
