Study On Industry Development Of Ruichang Yam

Developing local characteristics high-benefit agriculture is an important part ofcounty economy development. Yam industry is a leading characteristics industry ofRuichang City. This paper starts from current situation of the development of yam industry,and does an investigation on various aspects of before, during and after the production ofyam. Based on the principle of comparative advantage and the fundamental theories of theindustrialization of agriculture and characteristics agriculture, this paper takes peasantrycooperation organizations and farmers as the starting point, and analyzes the situation ofthe brand establish, the popularization of agro-techniques and the overall scale of Ruichangyam industry, by the positive analysis method. It summarizes the superiority in the naturalconditions, economic benefits, techniques and local policies which benefits the yamindustry in Ruichang. It also summarizes the deficiencies in the management of seedmarket and brand, and the unfavorable factors such as the small scale, lack of applicationof technology, low quality of the labor force and insufficient capital investment. Using asystemic method and the theory of the county’s leading industries, and referring todomestic and foreign theories and successful experiences on characteristic agriculture, thisthesis explores a way out for Ruichang yam industry, combined with the local situation. Itproposed a "1235Plan", namely one project (Seed Project), two strategies (developingagriculture with science and education, establishing brands), three systems (marketingsystem, agricultural extension system, and the system of agricultural products’ quality andsafety), and five changes of production and operation(regional distribution specialization,standardization, large scale, intensiveness). This article studies innovatively on advantagesand problems of Ruichang yam industry, using the basic theories and methods such assystemic project, large-scale economy and characteristic industry. Learning from the yamindustry and related industries in other places, this paper makes a theory model that isappropriate for local yam industry. This research will be helpful in optimizing the layout ofthe county’s characteristics agriculture industry, which will increase farmers’ incomingsand promote rural economy. It can be reference for the development of the county’scharacteristics agriculture industry.
