With the deepening of reform and opening up, the development zones were springingup all over the China. All governments hope to enhance the reputation and improve thecomprehensive strength through the investment promotion. In past ten years, thedevelopment zone in Suzhou could easily attract hundreds high-quality foreign companiesto invest and make a satisfactory result by its allover advantages. But with the developmentzones increasing quickly, preferential policies for foreign capitals expiring gradually andpolicies tilting towards middle and west China, development zones in Suzhou felt severecompetition.Suzhou W Development Zone located in the South of Suzhou with nearly20years ofinvestment promotion experience and was newly promoted to national level. From waitingfor investment in the beginning years to attracting investment in the middle and thenchoosing investment nowadays, it is more and more experienced and mature. How to beemerged as the best one among lots of zones and become the final choice of the investors,the most important thing is to find the competitive advantages and positioning itself right.This article expounds the knowledge and operation of position strategy and briefs theforming and development of three characteristic development zones in Suzhou as well astheir position, roles and characters. It also reviews the advantages, development, traditionalmode and present situation of Suzhou W Development Zone. At last, after summarizingand analyzing the present positioning strategies of Suzhou W Development Zone, it givessome reasonable suggestions.
