With the rapid development of the internet, network applications have been becoming more and more abundant, and network traffic is growing explosively and becoming more complex.These bring about various of problems, for example, the P2P applications occupy a lot of bandwidth which causes network congestion and makes bad effect on other users’web experience.These problems bring great inconvenience and difficulties for the management of the network. Recognizing the network traffic correctly and controlling the traffic effectively is the basis of the management of the network. This paper designs a traffic monitoring system based on the feature-library, so that network administrators can real-time monitor the flow, and masters the running state of the network, and can control the network traffic according to the different need.Firstly this paper studies the current widespread four kinds of traffic identification technology, which include traffic identification technology based on port, traffic identification technology based on the load characteristics, traffic identification technology based on the application layer gateway, and traffic identification technology based on the statistical characteristics.Each technology has its own advantage and disadvantage, which has good recognition performance for certain types of traffic. However, it has been unable to meet accurate recognition for more complex traffic using only one identification technology.Secondly this paper designs a traffic identification technology based on the feature-library by studying four kinds of traffic identification technology. Feature-library is a set of identification rules,providing matching template for traffic identification. This paper introduces three different types of rules in detail:single package rules, dual channel rules and statistical rules. Then it describes the recognition process how the feature-library use AC algorithm to match the library rules.Thirdly this paper designs a complete traffic monitoring system based on the feature-library identification technology. This system includes six functional units which are the feature-library recognition module, the traffic pretreatment module, the DB module, the front desk management module, the output display module and the traffic control module. By using this system, users can real-time query identification results and traffic statistics identification information conveniently, and grasp the running state of the network timely. Users also can control traffic by blocking or releasing some certain applications.At last, this paper designs two kinds of system deployment way:the straight road series deployment way and the bypass parallel deployment way to adapt for different practical application occasions.Then this paper actual deploys the system by the straight road series deployment way for the test. Test results show that the system designed by this paper has a good recognition performance and traffic control performance.
