The Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Network (DTN) can deal with the problems of longdelay, asymmetric data rates, high error rates and frequent intermittent connectivityeffectively in deep space communication environment. Because LTP can handle theproblem of delay and interruption point to point in the DTN, so we use LTP ARQ schemeto ensure the reliability of data transmission. Although LTP can ensure the reliability ofdata transmission, the high error rates and long delay are result in the number of packetretransmission increasing, not only the file transmission time is increased, but also wastesthe valuable link resources. Based on deep space communication environment, theproblem is studied.This work focuses on high error rates and long delay, making use of the goodperformance of error correction coding techniques, and then combines LTP automaticretransmission mechanism(ARQ) to ensure the reliability of communication. RS code has astrong error correction capability of random errors and burst errors, thus joins RS codewith LTP to reduce the times of packet retransmission in order to shorten the whole filetransmission time and improve the utilization of link resources. For different transmissiondelays or error rates, comparing LTP combining with RS code with LTP ARQ scheme,discussing and analyzing the whole file transmission time respectively. At the same time,points out the advantages using error correcting codes in deep space environment.
