Ad hoc wireless networks have attracted a growing interest in many applicationdomains, which include military applications, commercial applications, and applicationsin environments where the presence of an infrastructure network is impossible or notaffordable. Currently, the technology of transmitting data over the air is based onomni-directional antennas; therefore, most of the research in designing Medium AccessControl (MAC) protocols has assumed their deployment. As the network technology and the development of antenna technology, directionalthe antenna has been gradually used in the wireless self-organized network. By usingdirectional antennas, the signal transmitted in a specific direction, compared with usingomni-directional antennas, reduce the interference between the nodes, to improve thespatial reuse and increase the network capacity. The MAC protocol is a bridge to connectthe physical layer with network layer, and it plays an important role in wireless ad hocnetworks, and antenna technology has been a hot point on study of MAC protocols. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) Designing a DCSMAC (Directional Circular Scanning MAC) protocol utilizesmulti-hop RTS/CTS to decrease the communication invalidation and hidden terminalproblems and circular DRTS to alleviate deafness problem. Effectively solved handshakefailure problem caused by the directivity of directional antenna and the directionalantenna and omni-directional antenna transmission mode.(2) Designing a Cross layer MAC-ROUTER protocol based on802.11, in the modeof hybrid antennas wireless ad hoc networks. In order to make full use of the advantagesof long distance transport of directional antenna, using an idea about control route whichdesigned in MAC layer. In this protocol, make the data transmission can achieve d-odistance or d-d distance advantage. The middle of the forwarding node’s Datatransmission mainly process in the MAC layer, which does not require the participationof the network layer. This saves network layer routing lookup time, interlayer, encapsulation and de-encapsulation treatment time, to reduce transmission delay.
