In recent years, the advances in wireless sensor technologies have opened up anew generation of ubiquitous body-centric systems, namely body area network (BAN).BAN can monitor the vital physiological parameters of people in real time, giving fastearly warning and interventions based on the abnormally changed monitoring value, and transmit them to a remote medical server for analysis by the medical staff.BAN can be used in medical and health care, entertainment, sports, disasteremergency, military training, etc. With the coming of the aging society, the traditionalcentralized medical care can not satisfy the urgent demand of people, it gives BAN awidely application prospect in medical and health care. However, the research for BAN focuses on the theoretical level mostly. It doesn’thave a complete application solution on implementing of sink node and the choices ofwireless communication technology. For this circumstance, based on the research ofsystem architecture and the needs of collecting physiology parameters, this thesispropose a BAN system solution with Android phones as sink node.According to the needs of collecting physiology parameters, we design andimplement an Android client application for BAN to achieve the objective such ascollecting physiology parameters from the sensor, displaying on the phone, providingquery and alarm. It also can transmit the physiology parameters to a remote medicalserver for analysis by the medical staff. The main work of this paper can be described as follows:Firstly, we choose Android mobile as the sink node for BAN based on the systemarchitecture. Combining the bluetooth communication technolody that widely used insmart phone and the latest low-power Bluetooth4.0technical specification, we make adecision that the communication between sensor node and smart phone can be implemented by CC2564chip produced by TI Company.Secondly, we design and implement an Android application for satisfying therequirements of BAN. The application includes six modules: personal register andlogin, personal information recording, bluetooth communication, historical monitordata query, automatic alarm and communication to Web server. This applicationimplements the process of physiology parameters collecting, data storage, dataprocessing and visualization display. At the same time, it can also upload the data tothe medical Web server through HTTP communication.Thirdly, we choose dynamic Web server as the BAN medical remote server basedon B/S framework. Utilizing the technology of Eclipse, Tomcat and Mysql, weimplement the function of collecting physiology parameters from sensor network andprocessing data on Web pages. The system test demonstrates that the Android application for BAN implementsthe functions of data collection through bluetooth communication, historical monitordata query, automatic alarm and communication to Web server, etc. This Androidapplication has a friendly interface and easy operation with good practicability andextensibility. The proposed Android application implements the connectivity forhuman physiological parameters from data collection to mobile phone UI display anddata processing, to the remote medical server.
