With the appearance of all kinds of wireless portable devices and the de-velopment of sensor technology, people pay more and more attention to the person-centered wireless networks. Wireless body area network springs up in this big background. It has a promising application potential in the military, medical, entertainment field and our daily life for its miniature and usefulness. For its special characteristics, wireless body area network has some different qualities and requirements compared with typical wireless networks. Recently, the research on the key technology of this network is still at the initial stage and many technologies are remained to be solved.In wireless body area network, human body which is considered as the carrier of all kinds of sensor nodes will influence the transmission environ-ment and the structure characteristic of the whole network. For the conductiv-ity of body tissue, body can be as the transmission channel of signal, which will certainly attenuate the signal. And also the geometry of body will also in-fluence the networking method and network scale. As for this special body environment, this paper carried out some preliminary explorations on the network structure of wireless body area network from channel model and top level protocol designing.After analyzing wireless body area network's characteristics and re- quirements, this paper studies on the channel characteristics of WBAN begin-ning with the intra-body and extra-body channel model. Through the deep re-search on the extra-body channel model, it gets the basic channel characteris-tics of WBAN under the indoor environment and proposes that the extra-body channel model has two multipath components—diffraction component around the body and reflection component caused by other objects. By modeling for these two components separately, the corresponding statistical properties of channel parameter are extracted.A suitable algorithm called Combined Route Multiple Access Algorithm is also proposed. This algorithm considers hybrid network structure which is consisted of nodes whose data type is different. Through constructing multi-hop tree topology, the center control device is considered as the root node and control information and valid data is routed by this tree topology. Through introducing the relay node, it not only guarantees data transmitting correctly but also balances the energy consumption in the network. Since the frequent mobility of the node on the extremities, by setting these nodes as mobile nodes to simulate the real network quality and construct dynamic network protocol. At last, this paper verifies the algorithm by constructing the scenario in medical application and checks the delay quality and energy effi-ciency of node, the result of which verifies the correctness of this algorithm. This algorithm is valuable to the research on WBAN.
