3D Registration And Stereo Display Based On Magnetic Tracker In Large-Scale Augmented Reality Environment

Abstract/Summary:
Based on the traditional layout of the workshop, augmented reality was introduced. Three key technical problems (3D scene stereo display,3D registration technology and the accuracy of electromagnetic tracker) were researched due to the characteristics of the layout of Large-Scale workshop. The detailed research specifically included the following aspects:Firstly,3D stereo display technology was applied in workshop layout. A video see-through HMD based on Oculus Rift was designed. The videos captured by the cameras were processed with a fisheye distortion separately and displayed in split-screen with Oculus Rift, which enhanced the immersive for user under the mixed reality environment.Secondly, according to the features of the range of workshop layout system in augmented reality environment, the corresponding registration algorithm has been studied. Since the plant layout system would be finally operated based on real workshop layout, so the layout was Large-Scale scene. By comparing various tracking registration methods(acoustic tracking, visual tracking, magnetic tracking, inertial tracking, hybrid tracking), the paper selected the registration method based on magnetic tracker, and registration algorithm was proposed based on the magnetic tracker. In order to validate the proposed algorithm could satisfy Large-Scale scene workshop layout, the parameter results was preset first, then adjusted by means of the experiments. The final experiments showed that the proposed registration algorithm based on magnetic tracker in this paper met the requirements for the workshop layout design system in Large-Scale scene augmented reality environment.Thirdly, the accuracy of the electromagnetic tracker was studied. Virtual model registration had spatial error and jitter during workshop layout process,and a proposed registration algorithm based on the magnetic tracker was proposed. Aiming at the problem, this paper analyzed the principle of electromagnetic tracker device, and found that the magnetic track was affected by the hardware device itself, which resulted the attenuation of the magnetic field and data jitter. To solve this problem, this paper used function fitting to correct the attenuation of magnetic field, and used digital filtering to remove the noise. After the above processing, experiments showed that accuracy of electromagnetic tracker has improved significantly within a certain range.Finally, hardware and software platform of workshop layout system were established based on augmented reality. We are running this platform to validate that the theories(3D stereo display, registration, the accuracy of the tracker) are effectiveness and feasibility in the workshop layout system.
