With the development of information technology, websites are applied in every field. Thereinto, domestic and overseas universities have built their own course websites, for education arouses widespread attention. Therefore, these course websites have various structures and styles, but have almost the same functions. However, different universities build theirs’websites based on the way of "one site one build", which results in the current situation that much time and money are required and websites’reutilization rate is low. So we come up with an idea of conventional template and design and develop a tool to solve the current problems. In terms of versatility, flexibility, scalability, we can pay more attention to XML configuration to design a conventional template. So we put forward the method based on XML configuration to make up for the gap in this study. The content of this thesis is the design and implementation of course websites’generating template based on XML configuration. Firstly, analyze the core business of course websites, and conclude common modules and specialty modules. And then design navigation page, XML tags and DTD protocol, finish the parsing code of XML and all template development. Thereinto XML configuration file is automatically generated by information from website builder’s configuration, and then system generate corresponding website through parsing the xml configuration. The key point of this research is to solve the disadvantages in course websites’development using traditional way, and to explore general template with practical advantages to enrich the research on course websites template based on XML configuration. Finally, the paper tests the initial and secondary stations in order to indicate availability of conventional template through an illustration of website building.
