China is a high copper consumption country and also a country with aserious shortage of copper mineral resources. Regenerating and utilizing scrapcopper is an important way to relieve the contradiction of supply and demand ofcopper resources in China, but in order to achieve high quality scrap copperrecycling, we must solve the problem of scrap copper separation. There isimportant significance to research the scrap copper separation technology basedon eddy current testing.At present, there are two types of scrap copper in China. One is bulk scrapcopper like water tank and so on, the other is a kind of scrap copper withcomplex shape and requiring crushing into pieces. This paper is aimed atexploring the separation technology of bulk scrap copper like water tank.First, establish the mathematical model of the relationship between theelectrical conductivity of metals and the equivalent impedance of the eddycurrent sensor coil based on the theory of eddy current testing, model andsimulate the testing process of scrap copper by using ANSYS electromagneticfinite element simulation software, compare and analyze the simulation resultswith three situations that the surfaces of scrap copper are smooth, plating orconcave-convex from three aspects such as distribution of magnetic field lines,magnetic induction intensity of scrap copper and equivalent impedance of sensorcoil.Second, based on MCU PIC16F877A, the hardware and software of scrapcopper detection and separation system are designed.Finally, acquire and analyze the data of copper block sample utilizing thescrap copper detection and separation system, and establish a database whichreflects the relationship between the different material scrap copper and theoutput electrical parameters of eddy current sensor and provides theory basisfor the development of mass scrap copper separation device.
