With the fast development of aviation technology for military and civilian, theissue of aviation safety is attracting more attention. As planes frequently take off andrunway is efficiently used, the threat of the Foreign Bodies Debris (FOD) in airportrunway to the safty of airplanes taking off and landing is the top priority.Currently,some kind of FOD detection equipment for airport runway developed by foreigncountries have been applied; At the same time, the preliminary study for equipmenthas been carried out in our country, but there are no reports about the practicalapplication of the detection equipment. Consequently, it has a high practical value toresearch and develop a real-time FOD detection equipment for airport runway.Based on the project “Research and Development for the FOD Detection Systemin Military Airport”(NO.3P211K132414), this paper had provided an overall designprogram of the FOD detection system for airport runway. Aiming to the imagescanning problem in airport runway, the main focus is to research the design ofscanning system and scanning control algorithm for airport runway system.The main research and innovation are as described below:1. Consulting a large amount of relevant reference and based on the researchcurrent situation at home and abroad, this paper had thorough researched the systemdesign requirements of the FOD detection system and comparatively analyzed theimage acquisition device that used to the FOD detection system like CCD camera,millimeter wave radar and infrared imager, providing a system design program for theFOD detection system including scanning system,communication system,monitoringcenter,power-supply system and cleaning center based on the high-accuracy CCDcamera and advanced image processing technology.2. According to the comprehensive analysis to design requirements of thescanning system, a structural form of two dimensional rotating pan-tilt attached withthe CCD camera and auxiliaries had been adopted. Using the rotating pan-tilt movingof the horizontally and vertically direction, the runway image scanning had beencompleted. According to the pan-tilt’s working requirements, this paper had designedthe structure of pan-tilt by adopting DC motor driving, gear reducer andhigh-accuracy encoder and the pan-tilt model had been established. Utilizing theAnsys Workbench software, the modal analysis and random vibration analysis of the pan-tilt had been researched, the result from which had proved the rationality andreliability of pan-tilt structure.3. This paper had concentrated on the research of the scanning control algorithm,which is the core of the scanningcontrol system. Aiming to the characteristics ofdriving motor system for the pan-tilt, the inertia-friction-elastic loads model andtransfer function and the mathematic model of the motor drive had been created. Theinverse model control algorithm had been proposed through analyzing themathematical model of the the pan-tilt. To solve the problem of instablility for thesystem produced by PID control algorithm and fuzzy control algorithm, this paper hadprovided the control method based on inverse model control algorithm. By the jointsimulation technology of MATLAB/Simulink and RecurDyn, the analysis results hadshowed the advantages of short rising time for the output curves, small overshot andwell moving stability for inverse model controlling algorithm during the pan-tiltmovement.4. A pan-tilt scanning control system had been developed based on ARMcontroller—LPC2132. The hardware components design including power circuit,motor controlling circuit, camera lens controller communication circuit and serialcommunication circuit had been completed, and the PCB had been designed and thedebugged. The software including main program, serial communication interruptprogram, motor control program, encoder data processing program and lens controllerSPI communication program had been developed and debugged. A runway scanningcontrol system debugging program had laid foundation for the related experimentalresearch.5. Aiming to the practical application spot of the scanning system, theexperimental research of the control algorithm for the pan-tilt had been carried on.Based on the runway images acquired in the experiment spot, the transverse andlongitudinal matching offset had been acquired by the image matching method.Through the data analysis, the experiment results had showed the advantages of theinverse modal control algorithm for the movement stability and the accuracy of repeatlocating and meted the project requirements. Comparing with PID control algorithmand fuzzy control algorithm, the inverse modal control algorithm can improves thequality of the acquired images.
