Along with the development of modern information and technology, video image processing technology has been widely applied to some important fields, such as communication, sea and land traffic monitoring, military and so on. Especially, there is a high demand of video image processing which is captured by the high precision machine vision with the rapid development of machine vision. Therefore, the research of real-time video image processing with high frame rate and high resolution receives more attention recently.Video image processing handles billions of calculations per second, so there is the urgent need of appropriate processor. The special chips used more for video image are FPGA and DSP. FPGA has rich resources of logic, strong ability of parallel processing and the capacity of fast real-time processing; DSP has better processing capacity with efficient algorithm, and its core’s frequency can reach10GHz.In order to satisfy the need of high frame rate of video image acquisition and the real-time processing, an hardware platform has been constructed to realize the video image acquisition and real-time processing with architecture of FPGA+multi-core DSP, which is based on application requirements of frame rate of video image acquisition and processing. Its characteristics include:FPGA is responsible for the tasks of high frame rate of video image capture, video image pre-processing and fast data caching; SRIO interface can realizes the seamless communication between FPGA and DSP; multi-core DSP implements the complex algorithms of video image efficiently.First, the research status of high frame rate of video image and its hardware platform architecture have been simply introduced; Second, the overall architecture of high frame rate of video image acquisition and real-time processing with FPGA and eight cores DSP has been proposed, which is based on the application requirements and the analysis of relevant parameters of high frame rate of video image acquisition and processing, and the basic modules of the overall architecture and the selection of core chips have been briefly described; Third, the power requirement of hardware platform based on the system framework has been analyzed, and the design of system power supply has been completed; Fourth, this issue has done the interface circuit designs of system clock, configuration, external memory and so on, and completed the schematic design and PCB design of hardware circuit by Cadence Allegro16.5; Last, the validity of the design principle on FPGA hardware circuits has been verified by realizing the dark channel priority for image Haze removal of median filter based on FPGA.
