Study Of Three Dimension Water-and-ink Animation Based On NPR

Non-photorealistic Rendering (NPR) is one of hot topic in the ComputerGraphics (CG) study. NPR is an important channel for a close combination of CG andpainting art. The objective of NPR is not to render the image as a real picture, but toabstract the image following the requirements of cognitive science, art and imagedesign and thereby realize hand drawn style. NPR plays an important role insimulating western painting, for example, water color painting, pen painting, pencilpainting and oil painting. NPR is also used in the modeling oriental painting, forexample, water-and-ink painting in recent years.A NPR method was developed to create the water-and-ink painting based on thetwo-dimensional image. To realize NPR, Fall off technique is adopted to simulatehand drawn line and rendering. The results show that Fall off is able to render naturalcolor from the center to the edge and it is very suitable for showing water-and-inkstyle. In this study, MAX Script is also used to develop water-and-ink animation. Theresults show that MAX Script is able to show detailed action and key frame animation.Therefore, MAX Script is an important tool in development of water-and-inkanimation. Its function can be used to improve creation efficiency and realizewater-and-ink animation in real time.The major conclusions and innovations are as follows:1) the method presentedhere can simply the modeling algorithm and improve the modeling results. Acombination of NPR and modern image processing software is an important andpractical tool in simulating water-and-ink animation;2) the advantage of this methodis to save the computing resource and improve rendering efficiency and therefore itshould be an efficient way in developing water-and-ink animation;3) taking “TheLotus Pool by Moonlight” as an example to show how to design and create water-inkanimation using3D animation techniques. A procedure of developing water-and-inkanimation using3D animation technique is presented.
