Research of image processing meets the demands of computer and multimedia in the information society. As two important branches of image processing, image denoising and image enhancement have become two fairly active research areas. The research purpose is to improve the quality of image and highlight the important detail information, so as to satisfy the requirements in daily life and study. This paper mainly discusses the methods under the theoretical framework of fractional calculus for image denoising and enhancement, and the improved algorithms based on the traditional method. A series of difficult problems are discussed on the basis of the fractional calculus in image processing, and corresponding solutions are introduced.According to the above, the main work of this paper’s as follows:(1) Image denoising algorithm based on fractional integral are studied and discussed. On the basis of the above research and discussion, an adaptive denoising algorithm combined median filter with fractional integral is proposed. The algorithm made use of the noise discriminated conditions in adaptive median filter algorithm (ranked-order-based adaptive median filter, RAMF) to detect noise points, then took advantage of the "noise edge discriminated function" to detect those suspicious noise points. At the same time, according to the local structure feature and statistical information, the adaptive fractional order are constructed. In the end, the proposed fractional integral mask filters the noise points. The experimental results show that, the algorithm can effectively remove gaussian noise and salt and pepper noise, compared with the traditional image denoising algorithms, the proposed image denoising algorithm can not only enhance the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of denoised image, reduce the Mean Square Error (MSE) of denoised image, but also better retain the edge and texture details information of images.(2) Research and discussion of image enhancement algorithm based on fractional differential.are explored. The local mean and local standard deviation are brought in to define areas need to be strengthened.The traditional image enhancement algorithm based on the fractional differential are also improved. The experimental results show that, compared with the traditional methods, the algorithm can make a better image enhancement and retain image texture highly, the entropy of enhanced image is also improved.(3) According to the high procision and effectivenes of the fractional integral and fractional differential in image processing, this paper proposes an image denoising and enhancement algorithm based on fractional order calculus The experimental results demonstrate that, the algorithm can effectively remove noise while enhance the image’s significant information simultaneously, and then complete the synchronization of image denoising and enhancement.
