Perforated parts generally account for50%to80%of the total parts in machinerymanufacturing industry. Drilling is a very important processing and40%of them are deepdrilling. Internal surface processing of the deep perforated parts is usually operated in a closedor semi-closed state. Because of its high degree of difficulty and amount of workload, theaxis of the hole of the processed parts would be skewed easily. When the axis is skewed to acertain degree, the part would be scrapped and the drill would be damaged. Therefore, thedetection of axis skew is crucially important.Online detection methods for deep hole processing and the current situation of ultrasonicthickness measurement techniques at home and abroad were investigated in this paper.According to evaluation of various online techniques, ultrasonic nondestructive detection wasdetermined as the main method in this study. The method monitored the hole axis skew byreal time measuring the wall thickness of three-point on the surface. The design and analysisof hardware and software platforms of the detection system were detailedily described. Thehardware included ultrasonic transmitter, receiver, amplifier, detector, gate controllercircuit and signal acquisition system; the software completed the signal processing andanalysis of the acquisition. A PC software, which can reconstruct the two-dimensional andthree-dimensional thickness images according to the real-time measurements, clearlyvisualized the skewed trend of deep hole axis. Finally, automatic detection software wasdeveloped using MATLAB GUI tools, which implemented parameters setting, data collection,data storage and printing.Research on this topic achieved the desired objectives, which designed the internal holeeccentricity detection system and eventually overcame the traditional slow and the traditionalslow and rough manual thickness detection were eventually overcame. The work realized the real-time, fully automated detection, which improved the efficiency and accuracy of deep holeprocessing.
