Mass customization (MC) becomes a dominant production mode for its capacity of providing customers more suitable choices in an era of globalization of production and more intense competition. The ostensibly paradoxical terms "Customization" and "mass production" has been combined and realized under modern information technology, manufacturing technology and management techniques. MC can be classified into many styles by different customer order decoupling point (CODP) location, and how to arrange the production is one of the key technologies to realize the optimized production lot-sizing forward and backward of CODP, attracts theoretical and practical attention.Firstly the moving mechanism of CODP, the affections of CODP location and the classification of MC based on CODP were analyzed. Then the challenges of implementing MC:changing of economic lot-sizing, reduction of lead time and predicting of market demanding were discoursed. At last the optimization process and methods were provided, the main costs were found out in the production process of generic parts and semi-finished, the relationship between backward and forward of CODP were discussed, and based on the these analysis a model of MC is promoted. A phased method was used to solve the model according its properties. At last a simulation example was done via Matlab software to verify the effectiveness of the model and algorithm and has some significance to the reduction of costs in MC.This paper constructed a lot-sizing model and corresponding algorithm based on the basic idea of MC, and has some significance of enriching theoretical system of MC as well as the practical of providing reference and guidance in reducing the costs in production.
