With the development of large-scale and integrated industrial equipment, a large machine has as many as dozens of servo drives, which require very high accuracy of synchronization to ensure the normal operation of the entire system. In order to add a third-party drive to such a system, we need to design a controller which can get the synchronization information of original system. Against on the background, this paper set SERCOS bus as an example to design a controller with SERCOS interface to add a third-party to a multi-axis servo drive system. Meanwhile, upper computer software based on LabVIEW was designed to realize the human-computer interaction for the specified drive with detection and management function, then this software was ported to ARM platform.Firstly, a set of servo system was debugged to research the space vector control algorithm and the software architecture. Then, this paper analyzed the latest SERCOS III protocol to understand its structure of physical layer and data link layer. The synchronization mechanism was analyzed for the practical applications of SERCOS. After that, we designed the slave servo interface based on SERCOS bus and Ethernet, including hardware configuration and software design, focusing on the initialization process of SERCOS interface and the specific process that DSP control board connected to the multi-machine system to realize synchronization. Finally, upper computer software for LabVIEW was designed to manage the specified motor and read or write parameters and was ported to ARM handheld operating devices.SERCOS interface can get the information of a large-scale newspaper machine’s virtual machine spindle, by which to synchronize with the virtual spindle. That proved SERCOS interface can use well in multi-machine servo drive system. Meanwhile, all the upper computer software can operate the specified servo motor efficiently.
