This paper has a mechanism research of passively Q-switched yellow-orange Raman laser operation. Respectively from small signal approximation and non-small signal approximation, the Gaussian distribution rate equations under small signal approximation and the plane-wave distribution rate equations under non-small signal approximation are deduced. Through to the normalization of parameters and the Matlab software to solve the differential equations, numerical simulation of theoretical model is established. According to the theoretical curve, we analyzed the yellow-orange laser output characteristics of the passively Q-switched yellow-orange Raman laser with the changes of various comprehensive parameters in both cases. Combined with the actual situation, we discussed the selection of crystals and setting of cavity length in practical application. In both cases we analyzed and acquired the same conclusion. This conclusion has great theoretical significance on optimizing and designing the passively Q-switched yellow-orange Raman laser in the actual operation.
