2μm laser plays a important role in the area of photoelectricity countermeasure and so on. A high power2μm laser can be obtained with the single Tm doped solid state laser as the pump source of Ho solid state laser. In this paper, we analysed the output characteristics of single LD dual-pumped Tm:YLF continuous laser.Firstly, the rate equation of Tm laser with energy transfer upconversion and without energy transfer upconversion under continuous-wave operation was astablised. And the influence on output characteristics of energy transfer upconversion was analysed. Then a Tm solid state laser was designed, including the pump source and the laser cavity. Experimentlly, when the pump center wavelength is792nm, the piano concave resonator is "L" type, the radius of the output coupler is300mm, the cavity length is90mm, the tempreture of the laser crystal is18℃, a3.75W threshold power was obtained, the maximum output power is5.43W under the17.47W pump power, the corresponding slope efficiency and the optical efficiency is39.6%and31.1%, respectively.
