ABSTRACT:To cope with the growing computing needs of business application and scientific research, cloud computing emerges as a cost-effective way to supply computing resources and have been widely applied in the industry and academia. The cloud datacenter constructs a virtual resources pool, in which the computing resources, storage resources and networks can be automatically deployed, dynamically expanded and allocated on-demand. Thus, users can have access to the cloud resources at any time and any place as needed. In a commercial environment where users are varied, a good quality of service (QoS) has a profound influence in marketing promotion and winning the reputation from users. Therefore, it is critical to investigate how to guarantee the QoS in the cloud resource management.Considering the business model of cloud computing and its technical characters, this paper proposes a solution for QoS guarantee in cloud resource management. To begin with, key issues of QoS guarantee in cloud computing and the parameters in QoS metrics are discussed. Based on that, we present a resource management architecture that contains mechanisms in allocating tasks on virtual machines and mapping between virtual machines and physical servers. Then we investigate the two mechanisms in-depth:On one hand, a cost optimization model based on hierarchical location facilities is proposed to deal with the diversity of user requests when allocating the tasks on virtual machines; on the other hand, we models the virtual machine scheduling as a Knapsack Problem and designs a modified Ant Colony Algorithm. In all, by taking the user’s QoS needs as constraints, we present a QoS guarantee mechanism in resource management to maximize the economic benefits of cloud resource providers while meeting the QoS needs of users. Finally, by extending the cloud computing simulation platform-CloudSim, our models are verified and the proposed mechanism is proved to be feasible and effective. Our solution provides a useful reference for solving QoS guarantee problems in cloud resource management and realizing a balance between QoS guarantee and economic cost.
