Improvement of the efficiency for power amplifier effectively has attracted the concern of researchers concern owing to the fact that power amplifier is the most power consuming module in the whole communication system. The efficiency can be improved and the energy loss can be reduced, the communication quality will be greatly improved. Based on this purpose, researchers have proposed a kind of power amplifier design the communication quality will be greatly improved. Based on this purpose, researchers have proposed a kind of power amplifier design with ideal efficiency100%, which is called Class-F power amplifier. Because the amplifier has the advantages of small volume, easy implementation, obvious efficiency enhancement etc, it has become a hot research topic in the research of high efficiency power amplifier. In this thesis, firstly the basic principle of power amplifier is introduced. Later, Freescale’s4W transistor is used for the design of the amplifier. Comparisons among the performances of the power amplifiers with different harmonic control, saying, traditional harmonic control, SIR structure output harmonic control, input and output harmonic control,, demonstrate the superiority of the SIR structure used as harmonic control and the importance of input harmonic control in design a Class-F power amplifier is discussed also. Then, based on the SIR structure one kind of Class-F power amplifier is designed. A maximum efficiency of81.125%is achieved at1GHz, with20dBm input power and37.470dBm output power. Finally the input-output SIR structure and traditional harmonic control Class-F power amplifier is manufactured and tested. By comparing and analyzing the measurement results, the advantages of SIR structure harmonic control and the importance of applying input harmonic control in the design of Class-F power amplifier are demonstrated further.
