Due to the scarcity of energy resources, it is challenging to use the li mited amountof energy as efficiently as possible in wireless ad hoc networks. Topology control, apromising way of extending network lifetime, optimizes each wireless nodetransmission power, and maintains network connectivity.Cooperative Communication technology allows relay nodes to help source nodesimultaneously forward the same information such that transmission coverage can beextended. Consequently, topology control applications can be no longer limited to theconnected network. This thesis studies topology control with cooperative communication problem intwo and three dimensional wireless ad hoc networks, respectively. The proposedalgorithms can obtain a connectivity-enhanced energy-efficient topology. The mainworks of this thesis are as follows. The importance of topology control and cooperative communication in wireless adhoc networks are explained. According to different optimization objects, the existingtopology controls with cooperative communication reduce energy consumption in twoways: minimizing energy consumption of nodes and maximizing energy efficiency ofroutes. And the shortcomings of these algorithms are proposed. This thesis studies lifetime-extended dynamic topology control problem withcooperative communication (LDTCC), and propose two dynamic topology controlalgorithms (MST-based LDTCC and SP-based LDTCC), which can be applied indisconnected networks. These algorithms are based on consideration of the overallenergy cost of maintaining links and current available energy of n odes under CCmodel. The simulation results have proven that, the MST-based LDTCC reducespower consumption of nodes as much as possible and SP-based LDTCC guaranteesenergy-efficient paths between any node pairs. Furthermore, proposed algorithmsgreatly extend lifetime of the cooperative ad hoc network compared with otheralgorithms. The Connectivity-enhanced Interference-aware Energy-efficient Topology Controlproblem for3D cooperative ad hoc networks is studied. The proposed CIETCalgorithm is performed to construct a cooperative energy t-spanner where also thetopology’s connectivity is increased under CC model and interference is reduced under interference model. The resulting topology’s cooperative energy t-spannerproperty is theoretically analyzed. The simulation results show that CIETC schemesubstantially increase the connectivity and reduce the interference. Besides, CIETCguarantees energy-efficient paths between any node pairs.A simple and reliable method of extending MATLAB to support simulation oftopology control with cooperative communication is proposed.
