Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture has a long history of about5000years.Thus, ancient and modern literatures of TCM are vast, especially medical records,which were of an important guidance to modern clinical practices and science research.The medical record, early named as a case record, was a detailed record ofcomprehensive application of theory, method, formula and herbs of TCM and played akey role in TCM academic research. Therefore, it was very important and convenient toapply modern information technology to standard sorting and deep mining of traditionalChinese medical records.Aiming at the difficulty in the sorting research of traditional Chinese medicalrecords (that was building a structured database), this paper proposed a sorting platformof traditional Chinese medical records built based on computer-aided three-layerstructuration (first and second diagnosis structuration, sentence granularity structurationand concept granularity structuration), so as to create the premise for deep mining andanalysis of traditional Chinese medical records. The main research contents of paperwere as follows:1. General steps of sorting traditional Chinese medical records were proposed andgeneric technology of structuration sorting of traditional Chinese medical records wassummarized. The construction goal of sorting system of traditional Chinese medicalrecords was made, and based on that, system requirements including user and functionand nonfunctional requirements such as time characteristics, safety, reliability andexpansibility were also described.2. Aiming at the difficulty in the structuration sorting of traditional Chinesemedical records, this paper put forward the design objective of sorting system oftraditional Chinese medical records, designed function modules and drew a completedesign of system function modules, a flow chart of primary function. Then, it furtherdetailed the backend database of traditional Chinese medicine, efficacy and fourdiagnosis methods, which supported concept granularity structuration, and thus drew anE-R diagram of database design.3. Upon the above design, we adopted B/S mode and SQL2000database andutilized C#.NET and ADO technology to finish building a sorting system of traditional Chinese medical records based on Web. The system development and debuggingadopted VS2005technology, operating environment utilized IIS5.0or higher versionand users within the campus network of Fujian university of TCM could access thesystem pages through a browser. System modules consisted of user registration,personal information maintenance, medical records input, medical record structuration(first and second diagnosis structuration, sentence granularity structuration and conceptgranularity structuration), task allocation and review of sorting traditional Chinesemedical records, medical records export, concepts frequency statistics, and systemmaintenance.4. The sorting system of traditional Chinese medical records especially instructural sorting medical records, was designed and implemented using layereddetailed sorting mode of traditional Chinese medical records, including first and seconddiagnosis structuration, sentence granularity structuration, concept granularitystructuration, which would create the premise for deep sorting, mining and analysis ofmany traditional Chinese medical records.
