VOD (Video On Demand, VOD) is a stage recently launched an informationservice technology, which is the multimedia technology and network technology, acombination of both the emergence of new means. With video-on-demand technologythat everyone can depend on their own requirements, and obtain the information andchoose their favorite TV content according to the information which they need, moreefficient and convenient service to our life and learning. As a "the last one thousandmeters high-speed information channel " bottleneck optimal solutions cable TVnetwork, which is an important part of our access network, with a bandwidth resourcesare very rich, multi-user features. Therefore, VOD video on demand service in thedevelopment of cable television networks, So it is very good and has great potential fordevelopment.The purpose of the paper is to construct a large-scale VOD system, not only toachieve high-performance, high-availability, load-balance and extensible properties, butalso to use common PCs and loose coupling distributed system for the vast number ofinternet users to establish more efficient and useful video server platform. As a whole,this research task is mainly composed of constructing useful load-balance algorithm,establishing large-scale LVS cluster system for the video server and designing thesystem structure..Based on the purpose of meeting users’ demand, the paper mainly has three partswhich are completing the VOD systematic designing, having a test in the database ofChongqing Cable Network according to the number of users and the networkrequirements, and do the analysis and research on the feasibility of this system. Throughthe overall analysis, the system is divided into subsystem of program forms, informationfeed backing subsystem, program scheduling subsystem and database subsystem, thusto form a three-tier system model which has VOD management server of the centralcontrolling room, program-on-demand sub-server, the terminals of households. Thepaper also produces a graph of data transmission where the RTSP is practical.Finally, I build a simple environment, and the system was tested. First describesthe test environment, including server-related configuration and client relatedconfiguration; secondly describes the software testing process, mainly in the functional testing system testing and performance testing; finalization of the system functionaltesting, performance testing and network self-adaptation testing and fill test report. Testresults show that the system functions are better achieved, and thus completed this VODsystem design.In order to make the system designation more suitable and reliable, the paper atfirst makes a careful comparison and analysis on the advantages and disadvantagesamong the real working environment and other proposals for selecting in the course ofcompleting the applicable proposal,This paper is putting an emphasis on the research of VOD server. It is concludedthat the cluster-based distributed VOD video server is the best choice, as it can be usednot only conveniently in the LAN, but also widely in large-scale telecommunicationsystem, which tells a promising future.
