At present, the top research interest of medical image processing is shifting from single modality image capturing and data analysis towards multi-modality hybrid imaging and data fusion. Due to the independent nature of imaging device manufacturers in their R&D process, and also the source code unavailability for many commercial post-processing softwares, the end-users often encounter a situation that their high-end devices is incompatible with the reconstruction algorithm, and the reconstructed image data can not work with their fusion software. In this thesis, we proposed several of our major works as follows:(1) we designed a post-imaging application (MMI-Fusion) based on MITK and3DMed, aimed to provide fusion platform support for multimodal small animal molecular imaging experiment.(2) The fusion software which is designed in a modular-fashion, is intend to solve some basic but urgent problems in MMI fusion (e.g. spatial alignment and optical mapping). Three image processing toolboxes are developed, including1) small animal Micro-CT image spatial registration toolbox;2)3D mesh reconstruction and optical mapping toolbox and3) multi-modality image fusion toolbox. Those software modules were already integrated into3DMed system.
