It is more than300years since the theory of fractional order calculus was founded and lots of scholars have made research for fractional order calculus. Since using the fractional order theory to build models for system can better reveal the essence and behavior of the object, fractional order calculus are widely used in the field of transportation, military and engineering control.In this dissertation, a fractional order PID controller is designed for an actual project of time-delay servo system to improve the performance. Firstly, basic knowlenges of fractional order calculus is studied. Secondly, the characteristics of fractional order PID controller and the influence of parameters on control effect are analyzed. For a Large Inertia servo system with time-delay, we propose the fractional order PID controller parameter tuning method of which the controller fulfills the robust stability conditions.Thirdly, parameter self-tuning method based on particle swarm optimization algorithm was studied. Analyze the defect of basic PSO algorithm, the speed-location update formula is updated and experiment shown that improved PSO algorithm can obtain obvious improvement. Then, propose an auto tuning method of fractional order PID controller based on improved PSO algorithm and do experiment in MATLAB software.Finally, hardware about fractional order PID controller is designed base on DSP chip TMS320F28335. Combine the fractional order control calculus with feed-forward control and zoning control, complete the software design of compound control in CCS. On this basis, debug servo system both software and hardware to accomplish test system performance.The experimental results show that the application of fractional control algorithm in the practical servo system can achieve good performance. The fractional order PID controller has good robustness when changing the parameters of system.
