With the rapid development of science and technology, the sensor nodes have realized the networking and intelligence. This technology can fundamentally improve the ability to access and control information, which has received widely applications in the industry, agriculture, medical care, national defense, forestry etc. These applications are established on the basis of the monitoring area coverage from sensors, and the collection, process and transmission from the Monitoring target information. The coverage of the monitoring area is the beginning of the wireless sensor network. Network coverage is the safeguard to provide users with reliable information. Taking into account the importance of wireless sensor network coverage in the wireless sensor network, we carried out our research on the area coverage and barrier coverage of the wireless sensor network respectively. The chief work is as follows:1. This paper presents a scheme of the virtual gravity line in combination with the virtual force algorithm to form a seamless coverage of monitoring area. Because the sensor nodes usually deployed in harsh or complex areas, randomly scattered in the monitoring regions, which inevitably leading to uneven coverage of monitoring areas and then causing the deviation of the information collection of monitoring targets. To solve this problem, we introduced a virtual force algorithm, which could improve the network’s coverage effects and the effective coverage rate of the sensor nodes. However, the result of simulation indicates it was not enough to realize the seamless coverage to the monitoring areas. Therefore, this paper presents a scheme of the virtual gravity line in combination with the virtual force algorithm to form a seamless coverage of monitoring area. We have carried on the simulation and analysis to the scheme, and the result indicates that this scheme can overcome the flaw of the virtual force algorithm which can not form seamless coverage of monitoring area, at the same time it can form a seamless coverage of monitoring area with the least amount of sensor nodes.2. RBarrier algorithm is proposed to improve the barrier coverage network’s ability of adapting to the environment based on CBarrier algorithm by introducing auxiliary gravity line. For CBarrier algorithm can not adapt to the changes of the environment effectively, this paper introduce the auxiliary gravity line to deploy the redundant sensor nodes in the barrier coverage network. When the barrier coverage path encounters obstacles, we can use the edges of the obstacles as a auxiliary gravity line to deploy redundant sensor nodes. Thus it can save the sensor nodes effectively and form barrier coverage around obstacles. The simulation result shows that RBarrier algorithm can adapt to changes of the environment better than CBarrier algorithm, at the same time RBarrier algorithm also can save the node numbers and the network energy consumption.
