With the development of the economy and society, information communication technology has greatly enriched people’s lives. Optical network survivability becomes an area of great concern. It’s very important to improve the survivability of optical networks to guarantee communication quality. But for another problem, because of the energy shortage and environmental pollution more and more researchers pay attention to the energy consumption of the optical network. The design of green survivable network is a valuable research direction. In the dissertation, optical network survivability and green optical networks are combined togather to explore the energy consumption of survivable optical networks. Optical network survivability technology is divided into single-layer survivability and multi-layer survivability with protection mechanisms and recovery mechanisms to achieve reliable operation of the network.Spare capacity allocation is a very important part of surviability design and can optimize the total usage of the network resouces.Green optical network minimizes the consumption of energy essentially through a variety of techniques such as selectively turning off network elements,energy-efficient network design,energy-efficient IP packet forwarding and green routing. This dissertation minimized the the network energy consumption to achive a energy-saving and enviroment-friendly green optical networks through optimizes the network resouces of the survivable networks under different survivability design. This paper reviews the network survivability mechanism and green optical network technology. Then proposed the energy-consumption model of IP/MPLS over OTN survivability design. The network structure is an opaque network and minimized the energy consumption of the network through Integer Linear Programming algorithm.A comparative analysis of network energy consumption under different survival techniques and the study of the impact of the phisical network structure to the energy consumption is shown in the dissertation. For the network energy consumption of low bandwidth LSP,single layer survivability design performs better than multi-layer survivability design. The component consuming the major part energy of the network is IP/optical line card.EDFAs consume less than2%of the total energy consumption. For different spare capacity allocation methods, interlayer BRS performs better than double protection and spare unprotected.Sparse network with low connectivity parameter uses more wavelengths for optical path routing and increase the energy consumption.
