As the front part of the information process for infrared detection system, infrareddim and small target detection is the precondition to find and track target. In terms ofthe characteristics of target and background, this paper emphasizes the targets detectionin the single frame, simultaneously considers the track initiation in image sequences.The main contents of this paper are as follows:In chapter2, the studies analyze target imaging factor in background clutter basedon infrared imaging model. According to the knowledge of radiation, the foundation ofinfrared image background and the noise distribution are analyzed. The extensiveexperiments are done to the PSF, which affect target detection.In chapter3, the issue of morphology filter for infrared dim and small targetbackground suppression and detection is studied. First studies the representativealgorithm of background suppression. Then a better structure which effectively filtersthe intense clutter and preserves the target signal and an improved algorithm based onmorphology filter are proposed for detecting target efficiently. Last, studies thedistribution characteristics of background suppression result and the setting of thresholdcoefficient in constant false alarm rate detection.In chapter4, the issue of infrared sub-image background suppression and targetdetection method is studied. The studies propose a two-step detection method for lowtransfer rate and limit computing resource. First pick up sub-image, then detect. In thefirst step, the paper put forward an image segmentation technique based on sub-image.In the second step, come up with a directional median filter. The new approach’sperformance is much better in the case of sub-image target detection.In chapter5, it introduces the theory of Hough transform and researches for theinitiation of traces of targets in image sequences base on Hough transform. Experimentsanalyze the performance of trace initiation with Hough transform and the influence ofthe background suppression algorithm on it.
