Embedded system is a special computer system designed for especial applicationsbased on computer technology whose software and hardware can be clipped and whichis very strict in the requirements of functions, reliability, costs, etc. The quickdevelopment of embedded technology makes its application covers all fields such asfinance, space flight, network, telecommunication, information electronic, medical care,industrial control, military and so on. At the same time, its security problems becomemore and more important. How to keep the embedded system providing services all thetime under the circumstance of various threats appears particularly important. That isthe contents which the embedded system survivability studies. Embedded systemsurvivability can be described as the ability that system utilizes survivability strategiesto form the function of resisting attacks, recognizing threats and recovering system andthen makes it go on providing critical service when suffering attacks, fault orunexpected situations.The paper establishes a set of embedded system survivability assessment systemfrom the four aspects of system environment, system threat, system survivabilityrequirements and system survivability strategy. Its main contributions and creations areas follows: propose a formalized definition of Embedded system; according the featuresof embedded system, abstract the system to a hierarchy structure model, researchsurvivability strategies on each level, analyze all kinds of potential threats, combinesystem survivability requirements and put forward a set of system survivability analysismodel; take advantage of Delphi to build the index system of system survivabilityquantitative assessment; analyze the features of present system assessment methods,confirm the embedded system survivability assessment method and design assessmentprocess; write embedded system survivability assessment system by JAVA language andvalidate its feasibility and validity through examples.
