The Research And Application Of License Plate Recognition

LPRS consists of three modules in general, which are as follows: license plate locating,character segmentation and character recognition. The dissertation analyzes three modules related to LPRS deeply and presents my own viewpoint.The paper firstly introduces the basis of image process technology. Chapter 3 gives a full introduction of license plate locating. After image preprocessing and magnifying of image, it puts forward an algorithm of license plate locating based on mathematical morphology method. Chapter 4 discusses character segmentation. After image preprocessing and rectifying the distortion of image, it proposes an algorithm of character segmentation based on projection-histogram method, changing the character with the same size. Chapter 5 introduces character recognition, analyzes the structure of back propagation artificial neural network with relevant theories and characters features, recognizes the single character based on back propagation artificial neural network.In the end, license plate locating system is developed on Visual C++ and Windows. It is not only friendly but also practical.
