As important steel varieties, plates are widely used in infrastructure construction,shipbuilding, engineering machinery, containers, energy, construction and other industries,which play a significant role in the development of national economy, especially, in thelarge-scale infrastructure projects in developing countries. In recent years, domestic platerolling technology development is rapid. With the introduction of foreign advancedtechnology and equipments, the development of the high level plate attains a strongsupport. Cold plate leveler plays a crucial role in the development process of these newsteels. It mainly used for the plates which need cold state leveling, because these platesafter cooling process are deformed and plate shape cannot meet customers’ requirement.This paper takes the9rollers cold plate leveler as the research object in Shouqin4300mm plate mill factory production line. According to the requirement of levelingtechnology, the overall design scheme of the control system is given. The self-developedVME is taken as the Lord controller, and connect the frequency convectors and remote I/Othrough the Profibus; Industrial PCs are as a HMI system monitoring and management.The VME and industrial PC are linked together through the Ethernet, which constitute thecold plate leveling machine control system. Main functions of the control system are asbelow: parameters detecting and display interface development of cold plate leveler; thecontrolling and interlocking of operation state of the leveler; the comprehensivemonitoring of production processes. The system can effectively improve the stability ofcontrol parameters, so as to improve the steel leveling quality of products, and fulfill therequirement of customers. It also can enhance the security operation, improve productioncondition, reduce the operators labor intensity, and decrease the maintenance costs.
