With the continuous development of science and technology, peopleincreasingly demand the high quality of lives, which means people need acomfortable living environment. Smart home technology has emerged in thiscontext. The control system is the core of smart home. This technology has beenaround for years. Because of the inconformity market standards, poorcompatibility among the various products, smart home system is not formed inthe domestic market with the scale. This paper designs and implements a smarthome system based on ARM from the following aspects:1.Firstly, this paper gives the definition of smart home, introduces thedevelopment of smart home at home and abroad. The smart home system isdesigned and developed based on ARM11which is the core controller of thewhole system. The embedded Linux is installed in the core controller to manageall the devices in the system. This paper describes installation processing of theembedded Linux and the associated software, including bootloader, root filesystem, and the control softwares which are the Web server BOA and the DDNSsoftware Peanuthull.2.The terminal portion of the system uses wired control and wireless control.Firstly, the wired control of the smart appliances drivers and application aredesigned and implementated. The wireless control, including wireless sensorsand wireless control of the smart appliances, uses Zigbee protocol for wirelesstransmission.And the communication and data process programs of four sensors(temperature sensors, light sensors, toxic gas sensor, and infrared body sensor)are designed in the Z-Stack. Finally, the test results of the two methods areprovided.3.According to the different environment, the system control part is divid edinto LAN environment and WAN. The hardwares in the system communicatedirectly through private IP in LAN environment. They communicate through theWAN domain name which comes from Peanuthull implanted in embedded Linuxsystem in WAN environment. In the two environments, computers and Androidphones can be used to communicate to the smart home system. Using a computer to monitor and control the home environment is realized through the Web serverBOA which uses CGI scripts and HTML language. While using an Androidphone is through the application to monitor the home environmen t. This paperalso details the Android system and the development process of the application.
