With the rapid development of information technology, explosive growth of data hasbrought many challenges to the existing backup technology. Traditional optical jukeboxfile backup system has a series of problems such as low speed of data acquisition,limitations of centralized backup. Although the rapid growth of data, computing power,storage capacity of the client system has also got improved, the free space of the clientsystem becomes a valuable resource. P2P technology makes it possible to take fullutilization of storage space of client systems, thus provides a solution to solve the problemin the traditional backup systems. This paper focuses on how to use P2P technology tofully utilize the storage space of the client system to improve the performance of theoptical jukebox file backup system and the availability of data.Firstly the researches in the P2P storage system from the academic and industrycommunities are analyzed. Combined with the application background on this basis, thesuitable network architecture for the optical jukebox file backup system is chosen, andthe P2P technology is used to design a centralized P2P file backup system based on theoriginal optical jukebox file backup system. Then elaborate the ploy of data redundancystrategy, data recovery strategy, data maintenance strategy, etc. Second we give thestructure of the entire system, and analyze the design of each module. Finally, weimplement key modules of the system according to the design.The system has the following advantages: First, the P2P technology greatly improvesthe speed of recover data and backup data for users. Second, the client provides dataredundant for the optical jukebox thus improves the availability of data. Third our designreduces the pressure on the server and reduces the load of the optical jukebox, whichextend the life of the optical jukebox.
