City planning presentation has always been the field of the urgent demand to newvisualization technology, but it did not draw enough attention by the inside people. So it isvery short of the virtual reality technology use on stages of urban design report and resultsshow.Powerpoint, a proprietary commercial software presentation program developed byMicrosoft, is hard to impress audience for a large amount of information, the poorinteractivity and the static expression way (sometimes with a little animation as anadditional dynamic form). As constituted by various words and pictures, the presentationfile is too quantity information to acquire for people within30-40minutes report.Moreover, it is not convenient for listeners having interaction with lecturers, and difficultto timely put forward important suggestions to an urban design.This article presents "an interactive system for urban construction planningvisualization" by which using virtual reality technology to directly and interactivelypresent urban design achievement instead of traditional two dimensional report forms thatgives audience a new display method easy to understand the intentions of the des igner in ashort time.Through the3D virtual model display window, it makes the audience beingpersonally on the scene. Advocates can conduct rotating, amplification, reducing, roamingetc operations, and with arrows, color pieces, text, pictures, symbols as identifiers, so thataudience can see the design layout from any perspective hope to. In addition, morerelative information of roads and buildings will be activated by clicking the virtual objects,such as geometry size, environment parameters and so on.As Urban Design to the West Part of Hanyang Avenue (Liuqiao road-Hangang road)for an example, the system use mature3D modeling technology, SketchUP and3DsMax,Access database management system, Photoshop and other related software, combiningVRP-Builder editor to realize its interactive display function. After the project demandanalysis, based on city design reporting process, finishing3D models, notation (be able toreflect the design intention) and database information sheet respectively, and coding theinteractive function, the integration of the above content, a desktop virtualhuman-computer interactive system has been come true, which implements a way to easyoperation, effectively summary urban design content and easy to present the achie vement. This improved the traditional PowerPoint presentation method, by which don’t haveto browse pictures or slides back and forth. Thus, audience can intuitively and rapidly findwhat they want in the simulation scene, get released from heavy words and pictures andfully understand the report via practical interesting system function.
