With the widespread use of power electronic devices and other non-linearloads, harmonic currents produced by nonlinear loads turns to be more andmore serious to the power system. At the same time, a variety of powerelectronic devices require power system quality to be better. Thus moreeffective researches of harmonic problems are needed so as to governharmonic pollution and improve the quality of power supply of gird powersystem. Active Power Filter is the most effective mean of currently acceptedharmonic suppression and reactive power compensation methods. APF hasbeing perfectly applied in low-voltage distribution network after more than20years of development, however, which applied in high-voltage distributionnetwork is not mature.On the basis of the analysis of several existing high-voltage active powerfilter circuit topology, the working principle and advantages of the topology ofthe voltage and current sources in series active power filter are elaborated inthis paper. The harmonic and reactive current detection method based onsingle-phase instantaneous reactive power and some commonly current controlmeans are introduced. The voltage control method of the voltage source in thetopology and grid current compensation and tracking algorithm are presented.Through the simulation calculation, the excellent advantages incompensation characteristics of the based on voltage and current sources inseries active power filter is given. Several types of losses and calculationmethods of high voltage active power filter are introduced. The advantage oflow loss of the active power filter is highlighted through the comparison.Single-phase10kVA system is simulated with Matlab/Simulink, thefeasibility and effectiveness of the system is verified through the analysis onthe static compensator characteristics and transient compensationcharacteristics. The superior compensation of the active power filter is alsohighlighted.The hardware circuit is designed and an experimental prototype is buildto do an experimental verification of the topology. The voltage source has separately run and the tracking compensation of current has also run. Thefeasibility of the topology is verified.
