Volume data is prevalent in scientific simulation, medical imaging, oilexploration and other fields, and volume visualization has always been focus ofscientific visualization. Because DVR can effectively (Direct Volume Rendering)demonstrate volume data’s whole information and reveal internal features in volumedata, it has always received much attention, but DVR are suffering from complex andunintuitive parameter setting. For DVR’s performance depends on both rendingalgorithm and transfer function, the dissertation try to design&research intuitiveDirect volume rendering methods from two direction: rendering method and transferfunction design:1) Adaptive direct volume rendering method using simple transfer function: Themethod extracts feature segment by analyzing scalar profile, which is producedwhen ray traverse through the volume data; then adaptively adjust opacityaccording to the feature segment structure (i.e. thickness, order). For thepresented algorithm can adaptively adjust opacity, it can produce perfect resultimage with simple transfer function, so that the user can only design simpletransfer function, which is intuitive.2) Intuitive transfer function design method by combining the GMM andGraphs-Cuts: By combining GMM and Graph-Cuts, the dissertation presented asemi-automatic transfer function design methods with painting interface, so thatthe user can design a complex transfer function through several painting, which isvery intuitive.
