The influence of computer network on the human society is irreversible. The network has become an indispensable means and tool for people’s life, work and learning. But the network’normal operation is severely restricted, even blocked by the increasing attacks of virus, worm, SYN flood, P2P flow and DOS/DDOS which result in abnormal traffic that infinitely consumes the finite network bandwidth. Thus, real-time, quick and convenient measure and analysis of the network traffic helps to decode it from both qualitative and quantitative aspects to understand the network’s operating parameters to detect abnormal network traffic, which is of great significance in reality. The research is based on the campus network of the author’s working unit. The campus networks of higher learning institutions are characterized by large scale, great number of users, wide application and, especially, enormous and frequent occurrences of abnormal network traffic. A measure and analysis system of network traffic is built with NetFlow, database of MySQL, C、PHP and Highcharts. The system can collect, measure and analyze the network traffic of the campus network which especially possess the capabilities of locating the abnormal network traffic and determining its qualities and quantities to provide support for the following adjustment, cleaning and optimizing of the network. The system has been tested in the environment of the real campus network with charts to show simply and directly the network’s general information, especially the abnormal network traffic of it, which has fulfilled the design goals and can acts as an auxiliary tool for the administrators of small-medium sized networks.
