Many technical parameters need to be debugged in the product development process, For some specific products, experiments need to be carried out in motion or even high-speed motion. This makes the real-time observation of the experimental target rather difficult, which in turn, raises the difficulty to correctly identify the root causes to the problems under investigation. It has been widely used in industry to monitor product quality and failure of equipments in operation by data acquisition and data analysis. The data acquisition systems used in the industry consists of industrial computers, communication modules and data analysis softwares. Such systems bear the merits, of large data capacity, good maneuverability, and superior real-time performance, and short development cycle, etc. However, their relatively large geometrical dimensions and high power consumption limit their applications to the mobile target devices. In view of the issues summarized above and based on an extensive literature review on data acquisition systems, the author proposes a design scheme built upon embedded server-based data acquisition systems in this study. It involves two parts namely, data extraction and analysis based on an industrial computer and data acquisition based on an embedded server. This design is realized by connecting the sensors to the embedded servers’viavarious communication interfaces, and by recording the current operating parameters to the embedded server database through peoriodical scanning at a fixed freqency. At the completion of experiment, data acquisition devices are connected to multiple computers via ethernet for data extraction and data analysis. In this thesis, an embedded server is designed. Furthermore, a demonstration program is prepared to describe the actual operation of the system. The embedded server is built on the BF548module from ADI. This thesis also describres the schematic design and the PCB design, which includes a power supply circuit, a flash circuit, a drive circuit and a variety of communication interface circuits. Hardware interface driver test on this PCB board is conducted. Upon completion of the hardware interface driver test, the software system is built which consists of the U-Boot, μClinux and related application softwares. In order to verify the viability and stability of the software system, and to demonstrate the operation of the embedded server data acquisition system, a Java program is coded to achieve the data extraction and analysis.
