Student information management system (SIMS) is an integrated applicationsystem providing solutions to student information in colleges. Computer science,management science and other technologies are employed to establish the MIS, and it’sof great significance for promoting not only the efficiency and the quality of the studentinformation management, but also the management level of the whole school. In thisdissertation, the design and implement of a college student information management istaken as our research background, and we developed a SIMS based on Java Webtechnology and the B/S architecture, SQL Server2000as the backend DBMS.Firstly, the whole design target and function modules are determined in accordancewith the software engineering norms, based on the fully understanding of the studentinformation management business process as well as the basic theories and developingmethods of modern MIS system. Eight function modules are designed in the SIMS asthe following: user management, course management, class management, schoolmanagement, tuition management, score management, report management, and systemhelp module.Secondly, the3-tier B/S architecture is adopted in system developing in fullconsideration of the actual running environment and the cost of software developingand using, and all kinds of software developing architectures are also compared. Theinformation composition and the data table structures of the information managementbusiness are determined, after the technical demands of the SIMS have been analyzed indetail.Finally, the processes of analysis, design and implementation of the SIMS based onJava web technology are all introduced in detail, the advantages and future of Java webtechnology in MIS developing are also shown clearly.The actual running results of the SIMS show that the expectation goal has beenachieved, each module can work normally. The implementation of the system can achieve the school student information management of digitalization, networking, andgreatly improved the student information management level and work efficiency.
