In the modern high-tech war,electronic warfare has become an indispensable andimportant constituent,so the need to the broadband high-power solid-statetransmitter,which is the core components in electronic warfare equipment,becomesmore and more urgent.However the output power of a single solid-state device islimited,so need combining more solid amplifiers’ power to achieve system’srequirement.We first introduced the various power combining technologies and thedevelopment situation at home and abroad,then we analyzed the factors that influencethe efficiency of power combining.We decided to use ridge waveguide to complete thedesign of power combining network after compaer different technologies which cancombine power in a wide bandwidth.Then based on the ridge waveguide basictheoretical knowledge,We designed and simulated two double-ridged waveguide todouble-ridged waveguide T-junction power divider and a double-ridged waveguide tonon-standard single ridge waveguide T-junction power divider.Meanwhile,two ridgewaveguide to microstrip dual probe transition structures were put forward.Finally, aftercompared the bandwidth、loss character and machining difficulty level in the abovedesigns,we connected double-ridged waveguide to non-standard single ridgewaveguide T-junction power divider whith non-standard single ridge waveguide tomicrostrip dual probe transiton structure to formed a four-way power power module.A practical back-to-back power dividing and combining network is produced.Itsunilateral insert loss is less than0.55dB,the combining efficiency is more than88%,sothis structure has a good broadband characteristic.Based on the network,a four-waypower amplifier was made after assembling amplifiers.In the frequency range of8.5-18GHz,test results shows that the maximum saturated output power for41dBm(12.6W), the minimum saturated output power for38.68dBm,the measuredcombining efficiency from77.4%to88.7%.The results indicates that the designcompleted a four-way power combining amplifier in a wide frequency band.
