Based on image processing techniques, recognition and edge detection technology of machine part, to obtain the size parameters of the machine part,,is a very practical non-destructive testing technology. It is not only overcomes the disadvantages of contact measurement, but also has its unique advantages. The aim of image detecting technology is to obtain the information of object in the picture, mainly using a set of image processing algorithm. The image processing technologies, used in this paper, include:gray transformation, threshold processing, image de-noising, edge detection, classification and so on. The application of image detecting technology makes the detection of machine part’s size parameters rapid and accurate. What’s more,the ues of this technology can add in the process of industrial production flexibly, and the cost is low. The main contents of this paper include three parts. They are as follows:First, add image de-noising technology to the traditional edge detecting technology. In order to acquire the precise image information, we need to implement the reasonable image processing technology waht can persist the usefully maximum image information and remove unwanted interference signal on the image collected by the image acquisition equipment. This process is useful to reduce the bad influence on measuring. In this paper, there are two edge detecting algorithms:advanced Canny operator based on median filter and advanced Sobel operator Gauss based on wavelet transform. Each algorithms has its own pros and cons, and the two algorithms all can reach the requirement of image detecting index.Second, image recognition technology:gain the feature vector of object by the HUI invariant moments, then classify the measured object by calculating the distance between the measured object and standard objects through the HUI invariant moments obtained before.Third, design size-detect ing algorithm, after the type of machine part is determined, according to the kind of part’s feature, a corresponding algorithm should be designed to get the measured machine part’s size parameter and other related data.This paper uses three kinds of mechanical parts as sample parts.,then analyzes the testing performance, to make sure the testing results meet the index demand of testing system. In this paper, a discussion of the influencing factor to the test results is given too.
