With the increasing deterioration of the Earth’s environment, the sustainabledevelopment of low-carbon and energy-saving strategy has become increasinglyimportant. In2011, global energy consumption on the Internet had reached406TWh,and this value will rapidly increase with the development of Internet, the importance ofnetwork energy planning has become increasingly obvious. However, the trafficplanning research under current IP network mostly focused on traffic engineering orsurvivability, instead of green planning. In the OSPF protocol-based IP network, the weights are the important factorsaffecting the distribution of traffic. We can reasonably divert the flow to reduce thenumber of active ports by adjusting the weights, thus achieving the purpose of energysaving. This paper examines the feasibility of weight adjustment in the field of greentraffic planning. We use neighborhood search algorithm to adjust the network traffic inorder to achieve the purpose of reducing the number of active ports. We also designed amulti-link search-based algorithm to compensate for the limitations of the neighborhoodsearch algorithm. This paper compares the algorithm performance between the way ofclosing ports and the way of closing links, we find that the way of closing ports hasbetter performance. And by comparison with the explicit routing, we find that adjustingthe weight is an effective way of green planning. In the MTR (multi-topology routing) based IP networks, there are multiple logictopologies. Each demand can be forwarded through multiple working topologies. In theMTR, traffic can be more precise grooming by setting the weights of each topology anddistributaries’ coefficient. Take advantage of the flexible control of the flow distributionunder MTR technology, we can achieve better energy-saving effect. In this paper, wedesigned a weight setting algorithms under MTR and proposed ILP (integer linearprogramming) model for solving the optimal distributaries’ coefficient.CCN (Content Center Network) over IP networks is becoming a research hotspot atrecent years. The CCN caching mechanism will give us a new way to save energy. Eachnode in the CCN can cache named content, so it will became a small data source to response the request nearby, in order to reduce network traffic. Using cache caneffectively reduce the transmission power on the link, but also requires large energyconsumption while maintaining a large-capacity cache. How to trade-off between thelink power and the cache power is the core problem of the green planning. Weestablished more universal link energy consumption model and cache energyconsumption model, and proposed a cache capacity planning algorithm to solving theproblem of cache capacity allocation in hierarchy topology.
