IOV ("Internet of Vehicles") is one of the important branches of IOT ("Internet ofThings"), which is used in the field of intelligent transportation systems. WAVE protocol stackis a major networking protocol stack, which is specifically applied to the IOV, and graduallybecome an international mainstream for the ITS. At present, WAVE related technologies arestill in the research stage. It is still with significantly high cost in implementing hardwaresystems. Previous research efforts often relied on project-specific prototype implementationswhich are characterized by a high cost and are not always available to the entire researchcommunity.Vehicle localization is very important for traffic safety. It is also one of the importantresearch areas of the IOV. At present, the outdoor positioning technology based on GPS haswide applications. However, the GPS signal is very susceptible to the interference ofobstructions, especially in the situation when used in urban areas, tunnels, indoor environmentand so on. Under these circumstances, the localization error is relatively large, so that theaccuracy is difficult to satisfy the actual requirements. As to the WAVE related technologies, alarge number of RSUs should be sited along roadsides; therefore, we can use them to establishvehicle localization systems. In this paper, we mainly propose a terminal system design to the IOV and achievewireless localization system. The major works of the paper are given as follows:1. Study on WAVE protocol stack. We discuss the architecture of WAVE protocolstack and the characteristics of major component protocols, which mainly focus onthe IEEE802.11p, IEEE1609.4and IEEE1609.3.2. Design the communication terminal to the IOV. Based on the discussion of WAVEprotocol stack, we improve the network card drivers and the upper protocolprogram by using the OMAP SBC8100development board and Ciscowusb600n-v2wireless card, and then we obtain the terminal. 3. Realize the wireless localization system. We adopt the terminal design andfingerprint location technique, using the C/S development model, to realize thewireless localization system.
