Wireless communication is the most rapid development branch of theelectronic information industry in nearly30years, but the Power amplifierplays key role in today’s wireless communications. It’s one of the main partsin transmitter which consumes power, if it is inefficiency, it will make theserious waste in the electronic resource, and it also will cause the instability ofequipment because of its heat dissipation. So the design of high efficiencyamplifier becomes today’s urgent affairs.The Doherty amplifier is an important candidate for the power amplifierof base station due to its feature of high efficiency over an extended powerrange. But as it will affect the linearity of the power amplifier, so how todesign a Doherty amplifier which satisfies both high efficiency and highlinearity is the most difficult. The paper overcome the difficulty, andcompletes the design of the high linearity and high efficiency RF poweramplifier.The paper is focus on the design of high efficiency power amplifier.Firstly, we compared a variety of different high-efficiency RF power amplifiertechnologies on the base of collecting a great deal of information onmicrowave power amplifier. Then according to the characteristics of thecurrent high-PAPR modulation signal, we have done the In-depth theoreticresearch of the Doherty amplifier. And then it introduced the designrequirements and the control design principles of the power amplifier. Thencombined the Advanced Design System (ADS) software and experiencedpower amplifier model given by Freescale Company, the design work ofDoherty amplifier according to the load-pull theory is completed. Finally, itcompleted the design of RF part and the test of the physical, and poweramplifier with DPD fit to complete the test of linearity and efficiency.The paper completely introduced the whole design idea of the RF power amplifier, and the test of the physical, which has provided valuable practicalexperience for the follow-up study and a clear direction for improvement.
