Helical Magnetic Flux Compression Generator (HMFCG) which is a high-power pulse source suitable for missile-borne, because of its large initial inductance and cylindrical contour. In this paper research on the working process and structural optimization design of HMFCG from different angles of the magneto hydrodynamics (MHD), the detonation driving theory and the circuit theory. The main content of this study are as follows:1、Based on Maxwell’s equations, the kinetic equation of the magnetic field strength changes with time is obtained and a detailed analysis of the equation.The freeze and diffusion of the magnetic field on the impact of the changes in the magnetic field strength is analyzed during the working of HMFCG. The pseudo-contact distance is got during the processing of magnetic field compression. Based on the code, the impact factors of the pseudo-contact distance, such as, the expansion angle of the armature, explosive velocity, conductivity of the armature, are calculated. Based on the theory of magnetohydrodynamics, mass conservation law, momentum conservation law and energy conservation law are discussed during the process of magnetic compression by the armature. The magnetic force is analyzed and calculated.2、Based on detonation driving theory, expansion movement of the armature on the different mode of initiation is analyzed. The expansion angle and expansion radius of the armature are calculated and analyzed. The experiment of measuring explosive velocity is carried out. The design concept of new detonator system is proposed.3、The impact of the current frequency to the inductor is analyzed. In order to facilitate the calculation and analysis, the helical stator coil calculation method is analyzed. The calculation method is verified by experiment. The calculation model is established by useing the mirror current law. The impact of the armature on HMFCG is analyzed and calculation and the inductance variation of HMFCG during the working progress are obtained. The design method of double-layer stator coil to make HMFCG smaller is proposed. The advantages and disadvantages of the double-layer stator coil are analyzed by calculated. The resistance of HMFCG is calculated and the resistance of factors aer analyzed.
